Jubilee Fund investors help make safe housing possible for Manitobans.
In 2023, Jubilee Fund provided a $120,000.00 loan guarantee via Assiniboine Credit Union towards Red Road Lodge, a housing provider in downtown Winnipeg. With Jubilee Fund’s support, Red Road Lodge purchased its historic 137-year-old building.
The Red Road Lodge is located in the former Occidental Hotel on the corner of Logan and Main Street in the heart of Winnipeg’s homeless community. Operating as a transitional, supportive housing facility, it is the only dry, safe single-room-occupancy hotel on the notorious downtown strip. Red Road Lodge provides homes to 44 individuals in recovery from addictions, suffering from a mental illness or often both.
“Owning the building we have operated provides a significant increase on viability and security for us,” said Red Road Lodge Founder and CEO Richard Walls. “This decision will reduce costs and ensure critical services remain in the heart of Winnipeg for years to come.”
A proven housing model, Red Road Lodge significantly contributes to long-term successful tenancies, addiction recovery, mental health wellness, reintegration, volunteer & employment opportunities. Combined with a dry approach to housing marginalized people, they also provide critical Life Skill Programs, including REACH the STREET, a new employment training initiative.
Supporting this initiative is very important to us given that Red Road Lodge directly impacts and improves the lives of people in poverty. In these days when much of the housing crisis is focused on the middle of the market it is crucial that we do everything we can to ensure transitional housing is not forgotten.
