Northern Star Worker Co-op began in the 1980’s as a women’s sewing club hosted by the North End Women’s Centre. As skill levels increased the workers began to create works of art in the form of Star Blankets, which became very popular.
In 2002 the Jubilee Fund provided a loan guarantee to the Co-op to purchase supplies to produce star blankets for the North American Indigenous Games held in Winnipeg. Jubilee Fund also provided business counselling via volunteer mentors to help improve financial and management capacity.
