Jubilee Fund investors helped bring a valuable new employer, newcomer training, and a source of healthy, organic and local eating options to the University of Winnipeg campus with a loan guarantee.
When a new student residence opened at the University of Winnipeg in 2009 it brought a need for campus dining options for students on the University meal plan. Existing student demand and a need for catering for University functions also factored in, as did the opportunity to provide valuable skills and training.
After a number of meetings, a new organization was formed between the University of Winnipeg Community Renewal Corporation and SEED Winnipeg. The enterprise that emerged from the discussions, Diversity Food Services, allows the University to deliver healthy food options to students while training new immigrants in the areas of customer service, time management skills, equipment usage, safe food handling, and cashier/cook duties.
Many years later they are still making an impact; in 2018 Diversity was delivering between 10,000 to 18,000 meals per day.
