The Jubilee Fund 18th Annual General Meeting

The Jubilee Fund 18th Annual General Meeting was held at St. Paul's High School (Murray Hall), 2200 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg, on April 20, 2017.

President's Report

I am pleased to provide the membership with the President’s Report for 2016.  The Jubilee Fund continues to be successful in providing non- traditional financing to a number of organizations who are working to reduce poverty.

We continue to reach out to the broader Manitoba community to seek ways to financially help social enterprise start-ups, expansions, or service organizations who offer services to low-income families and individuals, housing co-ops and special needs groups.  Our efforts result in loan guarantees, but we also help by referring applicants to organizations better suited to meet their needs who can assist them in understanding what financial institutions require in business plans.

Our major challenge continues to be the public’s awareness of the Jubilee Fund and our ability to help those who need it. The more people aware of our organization, the more assistance we can provide. I encourage you to assist us with this challenge by volunteering, purchasing an Investment certificate, making a donation or telling others about us. With your help we can have a greater impact in Manitoba!

The Jubilee Fund continues to be in a strong financial position; this is evidenced in the Audited Financial Statements.  Fundraising continues to be successful, thanks to our generous donors. We also have held other successful events to raise funds.  In the future, we will be exploring ways to increase both our access to capital and the number of loan guarantees we provide.  I am pleased to report that we commenced our strategic planning process in 2016.  The process is unfolding very well.

The Jubilee Fund would not be able to operate without the assistance of several key partners, including the Assiniboine Credit Union. Its lending team provides us with the expertise and administration functions that are key to a lending program like ours.  Without the support of Assiniboine Credit Union we would not be able to do all that we do.  We also recognize and acknowledge the Province of Manitoba for continuing to support The Jubilee Fund.  The Province’s significant contribution is important to the Fund’s sustainability.

Our Jubilee Fund staff have been instrumental in the success of Jubilee. A special thank you to Rita Borthwick, who will be retiring from her work at the Jubilee Fund after 14 years of service! Our Treasurer, Rebecca Guderian will be leaving the Jubilee Board to fully focus on her family. Rebecca has contributed her financial expertise to Jubilee for the last 5 years and has gone above and beyond the call of duty by filling in as our bookkeeper while that position was vacant.

Finally, a big thank you to all our donors and volunteers who have contributed to our success.  With your support we continue to support Manitoba social projects and give back to the community.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Adams, President
